You can get a krugerrand containing ONE FULL TROY OUNCE of gold for about 1020.
That is several hundred dollars CHeaper than that partial ounce of "junk gold".
I know what I would do.

Re: should i buy a slabbed ngc uhr for 1440?

sorry croak.... my mistake.
the talk of ms70 and slabbing made me think of pre-1933 US gold coins.
I read more carefully and can see that you are considering newly minted coins here.
Why does one attempt, by the measure of packaging, to add value to gold, which is in itself the ultimate store of value?
Does the information on the packaging ( slabbing) add 400 dollars to the value of the ounce?

The act of slabbing turns bullion into nusmismatic. The additional "value" of $400 is the cost associated with the certifying that the 1oz is "a perfect specimen" of the series. The raw bullion value of the coin is your base price guarantee if TSHTF.

. The original question then distills down to the following:
Should I buy a slab for 400 dollars?"
I remain unconvinced that Information adds value to gold.

I was not attempting to convince you. I was merely adding my 2 cents to the conversation. However, in some cases, information may add value to gold. But that is for the buyer to decide.

So true. One other minor point. I suggest like in the historical past: many "may want to take their PAPER" (think 1978 to 1980 USA recently and many times in the past TOO) and purchase some gold or silver for the FIRST time.

Those many, :sleepy13: who like to sleep at night, for the first time BUYING MIGHT BUY in quanity and look favorably on a authenticated slab - they JUST might.

:111:

But who knows for sure - not me - IMVHO, of course.

I'm on the same page with you. That extra $400 can get you a 1/4 oz AGE, 1/10 oz AGE and you would still have a little left over to pick up some Mercury dimes. That's what I would do, but to each his own I guess.
